I am often disappointed by the reality of my parenting versus the delusion expectation I’d had before having kids. On one particularly off day, I was trying to wrestle Claire and Cam in a Cherry Berry. As Claire threw her yogurt cup away, she spilled a bit. I of course, ran to retrieve napkins… but when I returned, Claire happily sang, “Don’t worry Mom! I licked the spot, so it’s all clean!” To which I calmly replied:
This got me thinking. I know I can’t be the only mother experiencing this kind of insanity. Who would ever think that a child wouldn’t instinctively know to NOT LICK A TRASH CAN?!
So, being the Facebook addict that I am, I ran home and created the status that is the subject of this post: Things I never expected to say as a parent.
The comments were HYSTERICAL.
Really, I think it was a very therapeutic experience for all of us….
Knowing that none of us are perfect, and that none of us are raising perfect children. Really, we bonded.
Who am I kidding. We just all had a really good laugh together! Kids are crazy.
I hope this has given you a good laugh, too. Remember, Mom: they’re the crazy ones.
Anyway, if this post finds you in a strange place where you’re hurting and frustrated, remember you’re not alone. There are countless others simply trying to survive the entire experience of motherhood without causing sever psychological damage to our children!
Here’s the whole thread in case you’d like to laugh some more.
SOUND OFF: What are things YOU have said that you never expected to say as a parent? Share the fun!
